Mrs. Greer's Social Studies Syllabus
Curriculum: In 6th grade social studies, we are going to be taking a look at the whole world and how it has changed over time. We will take a systematic look at the history and culture of various civilizations, societies, and regions. By the end of the school year,, we will have an understanding of how our society was shaped, and be able to compare it to other past and present civilizations, societies, and regions.
Requirements: Students will be required to participate in all classroom activities and discussions. Additionally, there will be quizzes, tests, and activities. In order to achieve the course objectives there will be daily assignments, and notes, all of which will be kept in their Social Studies section of their binder.
Assignments: Class work is due on the day it is assigned unless otherwise notified. Most work will be completed in class; however homework will occasionally be assigned. Students will always be notified of a test at least 2 days in advance, and will have a study guide. When absent, the student is responsible to ask for work that was missed and will be given two school days to return all missing work.
Grading: Grades will be based on student mastery of the curriculum.
Formative assessments (daily work, homework, quizzes) count 30% of the final grade.
Summative assessments (tests, presentations, projects) count 70% of the final grade.
Any student that wishes to improve a grade will follow the same procedure as Language Arts.
